BETWEEN THE PLAIN AND THE MOUNTAIN
The success of Viñas del Vero cannot be understood without knowing a little about the Somontano, a land of vineyards and wines. The region receives this name because it is situated at the foot of the mountain, a few kilometres from the Sierra de Guara and the Salinas sierra, the first foothills of the Pyrenees, the most important mountain range in Spain and the geographic border with neighbouring France.
The Somontano has its capital in Barbastro and groups together some thirty towns. Situated in the area approaching the plain, just over 50 kilometres from Huesca, the region is watered by two rivers: the Vero and the Cinca. The Vero is famous for its ravines, canyons and gorges, a real paradise for thousands of adventure sports enthusiasts, who visit it every year. The river is also a paradise for wines. For this reason, our wines take its name.
Viñas del Vero and other wineries of the area set up the Somontano “Denominación de Origen” which, despite having a short history, has already gained recognition within our borders and elsewhere. More than just a parameter of quality, this “Denominación” implies respect for a geographical region, a tradition and an extraordinary future, guaranteed by the fact that all the grapes which are used to produce our wines come from the vineyards of the Somontano.
