HARMONIOUS.
Wine in which those qualities considered to be positive clearly stand out and also linger on after the tasting. It is pleasant and balanced.
HARSH.
Wine with a high tannin content and very dry. It grips the palate.
HARVEST.
Picking of the clusters of grapes. In Spain, depending on the latitude, the climate and the height, it begins in mid-August and may continue until the end of November.
HERBACEOUS.
With a flavour and aroma of grass. It is a positive feature in wines such as Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Cabernet.
HOGSHEAD.
Wooden container larger than a barrel, with a capacity of 700 litres.
HOLLOW.
Lacking flavour. It describes a wine which has a short first flavour and aftertaste and which lacks intensity on the middle of the palate.
HOT.
Describes the qualities of some red wines with a high alcoholic grading which are hot and even rustic at times. IMPERIAL. Larger than normal bottle which contains 6 litres (the equivalent of eight normal bottles) of Bordeaux or other red wines.
